The 97 minute feature film will be initially available online as 10 episodes via Machinima Prime between November 9th and February. We'll be interested to see how this unorthodox release window works out for Universal Studios Home Entertainment, in the meantime more details are available in the full release, along with a trailer after the break. The new spin-off film is packed with spectacular visual effects and cutting edge CGI and stars Luke Pasqualino "The Borgias" as a young Captain William Adama in the hard-hitting tale of the first Cylon war.
It will be presented as 10 episode chapters set to run through February and be followed by a two-hour movie premiere on Syfy. As the battle between humans and their creation, the sentient robotic Cylons, rages across the 12 colonial worlds, a young, talented fighter pilot, William Adama, finds himself assigned to one of the most powerful battlestars in the Colonial fleet: the Galactica.
DVD offers the flexibility and convenience of playing the movie in more places, both at home and while away. Not that it was a complete disaster, just not quite up to expectations for the much-lauded franchise. Had it been given the chance to continue on, though, there was plenty of potential for the prequel to rival the parent series if guided correctly and if no angels were involved.
Syfy originally gave the greenlight for a two-hour pilot, apparently with the intention of carrying it on as a series if the network executives liked what they saw. Then they decided to air it as a ten-part web series aproximately twelve minutes per ep with the potential that it could continue in that format. When it was released in November , the web series drew plenty of attention, and Syfy later aired it as a two-hour movie.
But the network decided not to go forward with an ongoing series. The network had lost interest in the more expensive, space-based productions like those from the fan-favorite Battlestar: Galactica and Stargate franchises Caprica and Stargate Universe had both been cancelled the prior year. So the new BSG show did not fit well with the new direction the network was going and was not given a chance to prove itself as an ongoing series.
Another Battlestar: Galactica series is currently in the works for the upcoming Peacock streaming service with Mr. It will allegedly take place in the same universe as the BSG reboot, so perhaps it can pick up on some of the storylines touched on in this failed pilot and left unresolved by Caprica.
